The Nova Scotia German Shepherd Club held their annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 10th - much enjoyed by all! The luck winner of the $200. Christmas Lobster Draw was Lendra Barker. We would like to thank everyone for supporting the Club by purchasing tickets and look forward to an exciting 2012. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Tracking Trial Results

On October 16, 2011, the Nova Scotia German Shepherd Dog Club held its annual tracking trial. A thank you is extended to Louise Weaver who was this year’s Judge. Thanks as well to everyone who entered the trial, as well as the many volunteers who helped with the track laying. We hope to see you again next year.

Temperament Test Canceled

The NSGSDC regrets to advise that we find it necessary to cancel this year's Temperament Test, scheduled to be held October 8th in conjunction with the Cobequid Kennel Club Dog Show in Truro, N. S. We look forward to having the TT once again in 2012, same venue, same weekend and more detail will follow.

TRACKING TEST

OCTOBER 17, 2010

JUDGE: JACK WILHELM

The Nova Scotia German Shepherd Dog Club held its 17^th Tracking Test October 17^th at Milford, N.S. It was a small test, compared to the usual entry, 1 TD and 3 TDX. Plotting day was pouring rain. The fields were hay fields and very squelchy with big puddles. The Judge was Jack Wilhelm with tracklayers Judy Bos and Louise Weaver. Louise was also an apprentice judge at this test.

Test day dawned overcast with light rain. The TD track was in a low-lying field and was very wet underfoot. This track was run by a 3-year old, male Bullmastiff. He started confidently and tracked well for the first two legs. Unfortunately, on the third leg he decided he would rather play with his leash.

Next time………….

TDX1 was a five-year old, male Bernese Mountain Dog. He started confidently and methodically, except for skirting around the puddles! Checked the first cross track and was very interested in the second cross track but finally decided against following it and continued to the road crossing. He hesitated briefly then committed and after that it was a stroll to the final article and a pass for Ch. Baergil Atlantic Agent CGN TDX, handled by Terry Wilkins.

TDX2 was a three-year old, male Australian Shepherd. By this time, the rain had stopped but it was much windier. He checked all directions from the scent pad before finally taking off up the track at a run. Fortunately for the judges, he stopped periodically to check in with his handler, which allowed them to catch up before he took off again!! Did I mention that the track went uphill? He hesitated briefly after the road crossing, then galloped off to the final article and a pass for Cowboy’s Three Fifty Seven RN CGN TDX and handler Jen Stairs.

TDX3 was an 18-month old, male GSD. He started slowly and methodically, completely ignoring the cross tracks on the first and second legs. He went out onto the road confidently but didn’t want to commit to the other side. There was a very steep bank and a squeeze through a hedge by a tree. Finally he took the plunge and dragged his handler into the field. After that he didn’t hesitate and forced his handler into a run for the rest of the track. (Again uphill – what were the track plotters thinking?) A pass for Feldberg’s Night Ninja TDX and handler Ed Harper.

HRM Natal Day Parade INVITATION

The members of the Nova Scotia German Shepherd Dog Club will again be
participating in the HRM Natal Day Parade. As a club, we are extending an invitation to other responsible dog owners to join us as we parade our friends. It is not necessary to have a German Shepherd Dog - your breed of choice is welcome - but he/she must be a friendly canine citizen. Each person is responsible for looking after the needs of his/her friend, including clean up, water, etc.

Responsible Dog Ownership Groups (RDOGS) and individual dog owners across Canada will take to the streets and demonstrate the benefits that responsible dog ownership brings to our local communities.

RDOG Day is a national initiative of the Canadian Kennel Club and supported by Dogs in Canada magazine and like-minded organizations across Canada. To review a list of national organizations supporting RDOG Day initiative, visit www.ckc.ca.

BRING YOUR PAL(S) AND JOIN RDOGS! As we did last year, the NSGSDC will again be meeting and starting off at the lower end of the Historic Properties area.

TO ALL WHO JOINED US LAST YEAR, PLEASE COME WITH US AGAIN. THE DOGS WERE A BIG HIT AND MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER HAD THE EXPERIENCE INTERACTED WITH BREEDS THEY HAVE ONLY SEEN FROM AFAR. CKC's RDOG day

The nova scotia german shepherd dog club is organizing a group to participate in CKC's RDOG day, September 27th.

Tentative plan is to meet at a specific point in downtown halifax and proceed to historic properties and the boardwalk. we are inviting other clubs to join us in this effort to further familiarize the public with dogs of all breeds and hope you will find time to help by showing off your breed(s).
